Curaçao meets Jostiband

From October 3rd to 12th, 2025, the Jostiband will travel to Curaçao for a special musical exchange project: Curaçao Meets Jostiband. With this project, the orchestra aims to demonstrate that music not only brings people together but also makes possibilities visible – regardless of a person's disability.

Music connects, inspires and surprises

Curaçao meets Jostiband: Music connects, inspires and surprises

From Friday, October 3rd to 12th, 2025, Curaçao will be introduced to the Jostiband. Thanks to initiatives from the island, the Jostiband has made it possible for them to make an inspiring musical and educational visit to Curaçao. With the project “Curaçao Meets Jostiband,” the orchestra demonstrates that people with intellectual disabilities are often capable of much more than they think – and that making music is primarily about fun, connection, and possibilities.

Music as a universal language

The Jostiband, part of the healthcare organization Ipse de Bruggen, has been proving for years that people with intellectual disabilities are capable of many things. Music is used to develop talents, stimulate personal growth, and break down prejudices. It brings people together and makes possibilities visible, regardless of a person’s disability.
Organizations in Curaçao have long shown interest in the Jostiband’s methods and experience.
Thanks to collaboration with local partners and support from Corendon and the Rotary Club of Curaçao, among others, this unique gathering is now becoming a reality.

Sponsors

The Jostiband’s visit to Curaçao was made possible by many funds and sponsors.

What’s going to happen?

During the visit, the Jostiband, in close collaboration with our partner, the Rotary Club Curaçao, is organizing a series of activities for young and old—for people with and without disabilities. Everything revolves around learning, playing, and enjoying music together. The Rotary Club Curaçao plays a vital role in this with its involvement and dedication in making this special project possible. The Jostiband is offering two free workshops at the music school in the Emmastad Cultural Center. These workshops are specifically designed for people with disabilities, their families, and caregivers. Using a colorful notation system, making music becomes accessible and fun for everyone. There is also a workshop specifically for music teachers on the island, so they can continue to provide education and support using the Jostiband’s unique color notation system in the future. Concerts

The Jostiband will give three special concerts on the island. See the Concerts page.

Schools project – lasting impact

In collaboration with schools and teachers on the island – including those in special education – the Jostiband is distributing 100 music boxes containing instruments and teaching materials. All instruments will remain on the island so the musical enjoyment can continue after the visit. A lasting investment in the creative development of Curaçaoan children, with or without disabilities.

Building opportunities together

“With this project, we want to show that joy, talent, and possibilities are universal,” says orchestra leader Lyan Verburg. “Music opens doors – in Curaçao just as much as in the Netherlands.”
