Frequently asked questions

How do I organise a concert with the Jostiband?

You can book or organise a Jostiband concert yourself. The Jostiband performs about twelve times a year. The musicians have a festive music programme of 2 times 45 minutes. The repertoire varies from children’s classics such as “Twee Emmertjes Water Halen” to church music and songs by Coldplay and Armin van Buuren. The concert is suitable for young and old.

During the concert, the Jostiband will tell the audience all about the musicians and the possibilities of this special orchestra. There is great interest in a performance, so be sure to schedule it well in advance. Detailed information can be found on the page Organising a performance yourself or you can contact us on +31 88 967 2381.

Can I become a member of the Jostiband?

Unfortunately, the waiting list is so long right now that we are not registering any new members for a while. The waiting time is already a few years. Fortunately, this is possible:

Where can I buy tickets for the Jostiband?

Check the concert schedule for concerts in your area. Tickets can usually be bought at the venue or from the contact persons of the specific concert. Occasionally tickets can be bought from the Jostiband if we organise a concert ourselves.

Are there more orchestras for people with disabilities?

Here you can find other g-orchestras. Is your orchestra not on the list? Please let us know via info@jostiband.nl.

How can I learn to play an instrument?

Everyone can make music. The Jostiband even has members who are hard of hearing. They feel and experience the music. And they play along in perfect rhythm with small instruments, such as a tambourine or macaraca.

Do you want to learn to make music? Use our Colour Music with instrument stickers. Or take a look at the mini music lessons first. Then you can see if it’s something for you.

You can use the Jostiband’s colour music for:

  • Keyboard
  • Piano
  • Xylophone
  • Accordion

You will not find any flutes or saxophones in the Jostiband. These are wind instruments. They are often difficult if you have a disability. This has to do with your mouth muscles, for example.

Would you like to try out a particular instrument? Many music schools offer trial lessons.

Can I work at the Jostiband?

At the moment there are no vacancies at the Jostiband. Not even for volunteers. That is because making music with people with a disability is just too much fun. Once you start, you never leave. Follow us on social media to stay informed.

The Jostiband is part of Ipse de Bruggen care organisation. Ipse de Bruggen is always looking for employees with a passion for music. As an assistant of people with a disability, this really adds something extra to your work. You can also work as a volunteer at many locations. View all vacancies for employees and volunteers here.

Would you like to make music with people with a disability as a music professional? The Jostiband has developed materials with which you can get to work with someone with a disability. Think of keyboard lessons with our Colour Music. As an enthusiastic amateur you can also accompany the first lessons. Read more here.

How does the Jostiband choose new repertoire?

The Jostiband plays more than 100 songs. We do not study a new song just like that. It sometimes takes up to a year before we play it well enough.

We therefore think carefully before we choose a new song. Sometimes we do this especially for a concert. For example, we learned Ravel’s Bolero for the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra. And we also wanted to play some newer songs, so we studied music by Coldplay and Armin van Buuren.

There is no accounting for tastes, even in the orchestra. That is why we play a mix of classical and religious songs, of pop songs and children’s songs.

Can I watch a rehearsal of the Jostiband?

On Wednesday evenings, the whole orchestra rehearses and on Saturday mornings we always rehearse with different, small groups. We are serious about our work and in principle there is no room for visitors.
We are happy to make an exception if your visit has an important purpose. For example: you want to start your own g-orchestra. Or: you have an educational reason. Or: you want to cooperate with us.

Would you like to know if you can come and have a look? Then please contact us at 088-967 2381 or send us a message using the contact form.

How does the Jostiband get its money?

The Jostiband is part of Ipse de Bruggen care organisation. Ipse de Bruggen provides a rehearsal room and assistance by the professional team, such as the orchestra leader.

The Jostiband pays for the instruments, clothing and all other costs itself. We can do this by giving concerts, but also thanks to donations from the Friends of the Jostiband. Would you like to support the Jostiband or become a Friend of the Jostiband? Read more here or donate now.
